The collection consists of the papers of Joseph Reid Bingham from 1889-1938. The papers consist mostly of correspondence, primarially from Bishop Charles Betts Galloway, Eugene Russell Hendrix, and Warren A. Candler to Bingham pertaining to Galloway's views on prohibition, politics in Mississippi, African Americans and race relations in Mississippi; Millsaps College, Jackson, Mississippi; Vanderbilt University; mission projects, and the North Mississippi Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. Included, also, is the outline for a speech made by Bishop Galloway in Carrollton in Feb. 1897: "Mississippi: Her Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow."
